Active Learning vs Passive Lecturing
When taking Organic Chemistry most students face a very uncomfortable reality: you’re lectured one thing and you see something totally different on the test! In the lecture they give you a theoretical foundation. But during the test they ask you to solve the problems. But how are you supposed to do that if you’ve never done any practice solving those questions and coming up with those synthetic pathways? π
And trust me, your instructor is not trying to “catch” you or trick you. On contraryοΌthe absolute majority of instructors there want you to succeed and move to the next step in your career! I mean, I’ve been an instructor for many years myself!
So, why such a disconnect between what is being taught and what is being tested?
Well, the culprit here is time. Or rather I should sayοΌlack thereof! We only have maybe 3-4 hours to teach you Organic Chemistry concepts in class during the lectures per week. Maybe show you an example or two here and there. But learning Organic Chemistry is like learning a different language or learning how to play a musical instrument. No amount of theory will ever substitute practice. You can only learn Organic Chemistry via regular and deliberate practice!
This is where OrganicChemistryTutor.com comes in handy. All tutorials on this site are based on the actual exam questions and problems! The emphasis here is always on the practical aspects of Organic Chemistry. Here, I’ll teach you the theory and practice. This way you’ll be ready for the test no matter what sort of trickery your instructor is up to.
Can I Trust the Info on this Site?
You Bet!
I’ve been a professional tutor for over two decades and taught General and Organic Chemistry at a college level for many years before dedicating my career to helping students in a one-on-one setting and developing educational materials for this site.
You’ll be learning Organic Chemistry from someone who’s:
I can keep going, but I think you get the idea π I have more info about my teaching and tutoring style here.

How is OrganicChemistryTutor.com different from other sites?
Unlike many other resources I don’t follow any specific textbook or curriculum. I don’t assume you know Chapter 5 before moving to Chapter 6. Because there are no chapters. This entire site is structured as an open-ended resource that covers each topic independently of the curriculum. The topics are generally organized by the chemistry of specific functional groups. However, I also have dedicated sections for synthesis, spectroscopy, mechanisms, and similar topics that span many aspects of Organic Chemistry.
I’m also always available to help you navigate the website and point you in the right direction if you’re confused about a certain topic… or are not even sure what exactly you’re confused about. I’m here Every! Single! Day! to help you. Ok, I do take an occasional day off now and then, I’m not a robot π€ but I do interact with my students all the time. And yes, I count the website members as my students. So when you have a question, I’ll be personally here to help, not some random “expert” or AI.
